President Obama finally laid out plans for the pull-out of American troops out of Iraq by August 2010.
During his campaign, Obama promised to end the war in Iraq and bring their soldiers home within 16 months. However, in his plan, the pull-out of all combat troops will take 19 months from Obama’s January inauguration – 3 months longer than his campaign promise.
Nonetheless, it is still a welcome news for the soldiers and their families who were separated because of the call of duty.
However, in spite of the pull out of combat troops, some 35,000 to 50,000 support troops will be left on Iraq ground which according to congressional officials is necessary to advise Iraqi forces and protect the U.S. interests.
Meanwhile, CNN conducted a poll together with the Opinion Research Corp and their survey revealed that 50 percent think the U.S. is winning the war in Iraq. Two out of three people who were asked oppose the U.S. mission, with only 31 percent backing the fighting in Iraq.
