Eugenio Vagni finally freed

After six months of being held captive by extremist rebels in Sulu, Italian hostage Eugenio Vagni was finally freed at around 1:05 AM, Sunday.

Senator Richard Gordon, Philippine National Red Cross chairman said that Vagni was freed with neither the Italian government nor the Red Cross paid any ranso. “The ICRC or the PNRC will not pay any ransom… The Italian government, they did not pay ransom as far as I know,” he said

Vagni is a volunteer of the International Committee Red Cross (ICRC).

I hope that this senseless hostage-taking of volunteer workers, teachers, and priest will stop.
