Mayweather exceeds agreed weight, will pay Marquez $600,000

Mayweather vs Marquez

Floyd Mayweather Jr. will have to pay Juan Marquez $600,000.

Mayweather exceeds the agreed weight of 144 pounds, he tipped the scales at 146 pounds. There were pre-negotiated weight penalties built in on the fight which was contracted as a welterweight fight.

Marquez, whose usual weight is around 13 pounds, was weighed at 142 as he stepped up from lightweight for the fight. He was said to get a guaranteed $3.2 million for the fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. As it turned out, he’ll get additional $600,000 on top of the $3.2 million.

Mayweather was reported a minimum guarantee of $10 million before pay-per-view TV revenues are added. Looks like he has enough to pay the $600,000 fine, and better chances to win the bout as well.

He has an undefeated career record of 39-0, while Marquez, who holds the WBA and WBO world lightweight belts, has 50 victories from 55 fights, 37 by knockout.
