Comelec extends registrations… but only for few registrants

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is bending its rule on its ‘no extension’ policy. It is extending registration and tells late registrants to come back on Tuesday, November 3, 2009. This is because of the power outage caused by typhoon ‘Santi’ which affected its offices.

Comelec Chairman Jose Melo, however stressed that the extension is given only to those who have submitted their registration forms to their offices on October 31. These would not to have their photograph, signatures and fingerprints taken by the Comelec’s data capturing machines, which are dependent on electricity, that’s why so many registrants were not able to complete their registrations.
