Comelec extends filing of candidacy

The Commission on Election has extended the filing of candidacy by one day. The original deadline for the filing of certificate of candidacy (COCs) was November 30. With the original deadline being a holiday, Comelec chairman Jose Melo announced that the deadline will be moved to midnight of December 1 instead.

“Our (former) deadline for the filing of COCs is Nov. 30 which is a holiday. So from Nov. 20, we will be open for the filing of applications – whether it’s a Saturday, Sunday or a holiday, including those holidays in the ARMM (Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao) – to Dec. 1 up to 12 midnight,” Melo added.

Aspiring candidates may start submitting their COCs on November 20 at the following Comelec offices:
- for those running for president, vice president, senators and party-list, they will have to file their COCs at the Comelec main office in Intramuros, Manila
- for those running for congressman down to councilors, they will submit their applications in their respective localities
