Da Vinci is Mona Lisa?!

I was surprised to learn that there was theory that Leonardo da Vinci painted himself as Mona Lisa, and I was even more surprised to learn that this theory is not really new.

For years, many historians have postulated that da Vinci was doing a self-portrait when he created Mona Lisa. Scientists are asking permission to dig up the remains of Mr. da Vinci “to conduct carbon and DNA testing.”

Scientist believe that if the skull is intact, they could, in theory, compare it to the face of the Mona Lisa by creating “a virtual and then physical reconstruction of Leonardo’s face.”

“We don’t know what we’ll find if the tomb is opened, we could even just find grains and dust,” says Giorgio Gruppioni, an anthropologist who is participating in the project. “But if the remains are well kept, they are a biological archive that registers events in a person’s life, and sometimes in their death.”

The process seems to be tedious, and quite far fetched. I just wish they would just let the dead rest, and the mystery remains a mystery.
