November 10th, 2008 — Announcement, Francis Kong, blogs, more than copy-paste
The inspiring writer and speaker that I wish to emulate, Mr. Francis Kong has an active blog again. He used to have a site before but it wasn’t updated. I’m glad that yesterday, as I was reading his weekly column in Philippine Star, which I often copy-paste, I saw the link to his new blog.

His blog, Inspiring Excelence, is what Mr. Kong is all about - inspiring excellence. Getting to know of him only through a former supervisor who has Mr. Kong’s book, I immediately became his loyal follower. That is why I often stayed too long at bookstores just to read his books. (yeah right, I’m such a cheapskate
)
When I learned of his weekly column, I made it a point to buy newspapers every Sunday just so I can read his writings. Now, I don’t have to wait for Sundays anymore because I can always visit his blog.
One more thing about Mr. Kong is that he answers e-mails. I used to e-mail him asking permission to copy-paste his weekly articles in my blogs which he always consented. Although lately, I took the liberty of copy-pasting his article without e-mailing him. I fear that my regular e-mails might be already a bother. Anyway, I do make sure to put proper credits on the articles I copy-paste.
Once again, that’s Inspiring Excellence by Mr. Francis Kong. Let’s all follow him as he inspire us all to excellence.

Do not look down on the boy
BUSINESS MATTERS (BEYOND THE BOTTOM LINE) By Francis J. Kong
Sunday, October 19, 2008
From the Albany Journal, 1890 comes this material. Let me share this with you.
A true Christian never looks down on anybody, and yet this habit of looking down on the less fortunate acquaintances is common enough to make the following advice, given by the Albany Journal to its young readers, very timely:

Find people worthy of your love
BUSINESS MATTERS (Beyond the bottom line) By Francis J. Kong
Sunday, September 7, 2008
A teacher asked her third grader to write about their personal heroes.
One little girl brought the essay home and showed it to her parents. Her father was flattered that her daughter had chosen him.
“Why did you pick me?” he asked expectantly. And the sweet little girl replied: “Because I couldn’t spell Schwarzennegger.”
Who are the people you admire?
Who are your heroes and role models in life?
Who would make it to your personal “5 Most Successful People list?”

Are you talking to me?
BUSINESS MATTERS (BEYOND THE BOTTOM LINE) By Francis J. Kong
Sunday, August 24, 2008
A conversation took place one day between a doctor and his patient:
“Please doctor you’ve got to help me. I’ve been stung by a Bee.” Says the patient.
“Don’t worry; put some salve on it.” Replied the doctor.
“I will never find that bee. It must be miles away by now.”
“No, you don’t understand! - put some salve on the place where you were stung.”
“Oh! That was in the garden where I was sitting under a tree.”
“No, No! I mean on the part of your body that the bee stung.”
Man still screaming in pain: “On my finger! The bee stung me on my finger and it really hurts.”
“Which one?” asked the doctor.
“How am I to know?” replied the patient…”All bees look the same to me.”
Was there a conversation taking place? I don’t think so. There was a lot of talking but there was no conversation.
Do you know that the same situation happens in the work place?
There’s a lot of talking and speaking going on but are people hearing sounds and noises or are they really listening to what you are saying?

Maybe it’s not you
BUSINESS MATTERS (BEYOND THE BOTTOM LINE) By Francis J. Kong
Sunday, August 17, 2008
Somebody says: “In the business world, a senior manager is expected to know a little something about a lot of things. A manager is expected to know everything about something. The secretaries however, are expected to know everything about everything.” Quite true I believe.
And then there was this person who complained: “We’ve all had some “unusual” bosses, I know, but I had one at one time who was more than just a bit “eccentric”.
He had two signs on his desk:
1) “In this Office, the word ‘No’ is a complete sentence”
2) “Reduce Stress by being reasonable — Do it my way”
While there is a lot of “boss –bashing” going around in the work place, the fact is that many leaders are misunderstood.

What women want in men according to their ages
BUSINESS MATTERS (BEYOND THE BOTTOM LINE) By Francis J. Kong
Sunday, July 6, 2008
I got this material from the Laugh and Lift Website so don’t write me hate mails, don’t curse me, don’t call me a male chauvinist because truth to tell I get on the case of the men more than I do on the women so please don’t bear a grudge against me. Let’s just have fun all right?
What do women want in a man?

BUSINESS MATTERS (BEYOND THE BOTTOM LINE)

It’s a rare opportunity for my wife and I to have the luxury of taking a casual and leisurely walk along the mall. What is normal for us is to rush from one place to another doing all those talks and giving all those seminars.
And so after our workout in the gym, The Ilocana and I took our sweet time, strolled inside a shopping mall; afterwards got inside my car and drove to a gas station and that’s when my cell phone rang. It was my all time faithful and reliable associate Rara sounding-agitated-trying-to-keep-her-nerve-tone-of-voice as she practically screamed, “Sir where are you? They are waiting for you.” I realized to my horror that I have forgotten about giving a talk that evening. I have mistakenly assumed that the talk was for the next evening but I was wrong.
