She’s not through with us yet?

From the looks of it, she is not.

Because our president, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo officially announced she will run for Congress in the 2010 elections.

A move that is interpreted by many as an obvious effort to cling to power, GMA’s quest for Congress is an unprecedented one in the history of the country.

Easily, the move was met with criticisms from different parties, and some even ask her to step down from her position once she filed her candidacy to prevent her using her the presidency to her advantage.

Now, her intention was made known. Whether this would become a reality is up to the constituents of the second district of Pampanga if they would allow this happen.

If they do, we know who to blame.

Ebdane withdraws from the presidential race

Ebdane made his announcement, which caught many by surprise, in a press briefing at the UP Bahay ng Alumni in Quezon City.

“After much reflection, I have decided to formally end my presidential bid. I have come to this decision to spare my friends, supporters and my family from the agony and burden of joining a fight which we cannot win,” Ebdane said.

Ebdane is the second presidential bet to quit the race after Senator Francis “Chiz’’ Escudero earlier withdrew his bid.

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman, and Celebrity Duets Season 1 winner, Bayani Fernando is adamant in pursuing his presidential bid. He even announced recently that he would be resigning his post soon as MMDA chairman to pursue his bid for the presidency in the 2010 elections. “There is no turning back. Definitely I’m resigning soon,” he said.

Fernando lost to Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro during the selection of the Lakas-Kampi-CMD’ standard-bearer last September. He hinted however that he might run as an independent candidate with the blessing of this party.

But at the conference, Escudero didn’t make any concrete announcement about his political plan, but instead asked for more time to decide if he would run for president. He however, ruled out defecting to another party, saying that being attached to vested groups might weigh down his commitment to the Filipino people.

Senator Francis Pangilinan, who is himself willing to give up his bid for the vice-presidency if only to unite their group, the Liberal Party, said Senator Manuel “Mar” Roxas should also be willing to sacrifice should Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III seeks for the presidency.

“I know Mar and his family have given up so much as well in preparations for 2010, and this too will be a huge sacrifice on their part. But nothing is more important than sacrificing or our country and for the change we desperately need as a nation,” Pangilinan said.
