There will be no classes on February 22, 2010

To commemorate the 24th anniversary of EDSA Revolution, there will be no classes on Monday, February 22. Unfortunately, it will the students who would go on holiday on that date, because it will be regular working day for government and private employees.

That is because February 22 is not included among the country’s national holidays, although it is celebrated every year.

Pants on the Ground!

I’m sure you already know the story. A 62 year old hopeful auditioned in American Idol, and yet another YouTube sensation was born in General Larry Platt. I won’t dwell much on the story, it’s everywhere.

Let’s just watch the video, right after the lyrics to the song below.

Pants on the Ground
by General Larry Platt

Pants on the ground, Pants on the ground
Lookin’ like a fool with your pants on the ground
With the gold in your mouth, hat turned sideways
Pants hit the ground, call yourself a cool cat
Lookin’ like a fool, walkin’ to downtown
With your pants on the ground!
Give it up! Hey, get your pants off the ground
Lookin’ like a fool, talking with your pants on the ground!
Give it up! Hey, get your pants off the ground
Lookin’ like a fool with your pants on the ground
Gold in your mouth, hat turned round
Pants hit the ground, call yourself a cool cat
Lookin’ like a fool Talkin’ with your pants on the ground!
Boom! Bam! Pants on the ground!
Lookin’ like a fool with your pants on the ground
With the gold in your mouth, hat turned sideways
Pants hit the ground, call yourself a cool cat.”

I can’t blame you if you’ll be singing it in your head for some time now.

Boy who killed his father will be admitted for treatment

This news is sad, and rather disturbing. A son killing his own father, and another man, by shooting them with a gun in 2008. What’s more surprising about this news is that, the boy was only eight year old then.

This boy from Arizona, now 10-year old, admitted the shooting and accepted responsibility for the killing. He was sentenced last Thursday to “in-patient treatment.” A treatment that could go on several years, under the decision, he is supposed to stay there until age 18.

The CNN update has no report as to why the kid shot his father. Searching for more information on the web, other than the fact that the boy killed his father, there was no explanation given for the shooting.

Almost a casualty of the new year revelry

The recent New Year’s celebration saw a lot of dangerous firecrackers, which should not actually be called as firecrackers anymore, but are more appropriately referred to as explosives. A friend of mine was almost a casualty as a large stone, which was blown away by a “firecracker”, fell on their roofing and bounced only a few inches away from her.

WWE Superstar Umaga passes away

Umaga Alumina page at wwe.com

He was known as “Umaga,” the Samoan Bulldozer. He is Edward Fatu in real life. He was one mean, demolition machine in the world of professional wrestling.

The sad news was that Umaga died Friday of a heart attack, at the age of 36, in a Houston, Texas hospital.

I remember him best with his rivalry against Bobby Lashley, and their match wherein WWE president Vince Mcmahon put his hair on the line against that billionaire Donald Trump. Lashley won and Vince got his head shaven clean.

She’s not through with us yet?

From the looks of it, she is not.

Because our president, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo officially announced she will run for Congress in the 2010 elections.

A move that is interpreted by many as an obvious effort to cling to power, GMA’s quest for Congress is an unprecedented one in the history of the country.

Easily, the move was met with criticisms from different parties, and some even ask her to step down from her position once she filed her candidacy to prevent her using her the presidency to her advantage.

Now, her intention was made known. Whether this would become a reality is up to the constituents of the second district of Pampanga if they would allow this happen.

If they do, we know who to blame.

Filing of certificate of candidacy starts today

It’s all systems go and the Commission on Elections (Comelec) is all set to receive the applications of all candidates who will file their certificate of candidacy today (CoCs).

Today is the first of filing of CoCs and it will end on midnight of December 1, 2009.

With the start of the filing of politicians, and the never-ending rotations of aspirants from one political party to another, the political scene will become alive, noisy… and entertaining.

The road to the 2010 elections officially opens!

RIP Johnny Delgado

Just logged in to computer and checked my twitter timeline, and what I read saddens me… successive tweets that veteran Filipino actor Johnny Delgado is dead.

I followed their link to the ABS-CBN breaking news which reports the death of Mr. Delgado.

I wouldn’t say that I am a die hard fan of the man, but he is a great actor… and yes, I am a fan of the Bad Bananas of which he was a member together with Christopher de Leon, Edgar Mortis, Jay Ilagan and Al Tantay.

Rest in peace, Mr. Johnny Delgado.

Noynoy-Mar leads Pulse Asia Survey

In the latest Pulse Asia Survey, Liberal Party (LP) standard bearer, Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III is a top favorite.

In the report by Philippine Star, Aquino continues to dominate presidential polls, and is leading by a “big margin” over “Nacionalista Party” standard-bearer Senator Manuel Villar. The Star based their reports on Pulse Asia’s October surver on Filipinos’ Preferences for the May 2010 Elections.

According to the survey Aquino attracted 44 percent support in a poll of preferred presidents, with Villar a distant second with 19 percent.
